Five streaming services that shut down
CNN+, T-Vision, PlayStation Vue, Quibi and Redbox’s digital offerings are among five streaming services that shut down. Their lifespans ranged from less than five weeks for CNN+ to several years for PlayStation Vue.
CNN+, T-Vision, PlayStation Vue, Quibi and Redbox’s digital offerings shut down. CNN+ lasted less than five weeks, while PlayStation Vue was available from 2015 until early 2020.
The services took different approaches: CNN+ focused on paid news programming, T-Vision on live TV packages, and Quibi on short smartphone videos. PlayStation Vue combined live channels with on-demand content and cloud DVR. Redbox at times paired streaming with its kiosk business, then offered digital rentals and purchases as well as ad-supported live TV.
Why the services ended
The retrospective points to recurring challenges including content costs, competition and products that did not fit viewing habits well enough. CNN+ also could not carry the main CNN network feed because of existing agreements. Quibi launched during pandemic lockdowns, when its on-the-go viewing concept was less suited to the circumstances.
These cases show that launching a dedicated streaming service does not automatically mean a wider selection or lasting availability. For IPTV player users, the practical takeaway is that a player can organize content, but cannot prevent a service from shutting down.

Why it matters
For IPTV player users, the cases show that a player can organize content but cannot ensure a streaming service remains available. If a service shuts down, continued access depends on the providers and their usage rights.
