There is no single channel count that answers “Which IPTV provider is best?” One household may need a particular regional channel, another may need two simultaneous streams, and a third may simply want an inexpensive way to watch on a TV. So compare your must-have channels, devices and usage rules before lining up prices. This page looks at the official waipu.tv, Zattoo and MagentaTV offers in Germany. It is not a disguised ranking and does not replace the tariff details shown when you sign up. Prices, promotions and package contents were checked on linked provider pages on 23 October 2026 and may change afterward. A player app such as TiviMate is not a TV service and should not go in the same cost column.
Three questions that determine the comparison
First: which channels or sports rights are essential? Write down specific names, not just “lots of channels.” Second: where will you actually watch—Samsung or LG TV, Fire TV, Apple TV, browser or smartphone? Check exact app support for your model and country with each provider. Third: how many people watch at the same time, and do you need recordings, restart or mobile viewing? A cheap basic plan may have a limit you only notice on the first evening when everyone wants to watch. Include add-on packages and required hardware instead of comparing only an advertised monthly price.
The official channel list matters more than any aggregate count. A package with 300 channels is no better for you than one with 200 if it lacks the one channel you need. HD claims also do not mean Full HD on every channel and device. Open each channel list and look for your five to ten essential channels individually. Check regional versions and restrictions on mobile or viewing abroad. Use that list as a filter before starting a trial.
waipu.tv: distinguish packages from partner offers
waipu.tv offers several packages, some combined with a stick or streaming partners. On the offer page checked on 23 October 2026, Perfect Plus was listed as a monthly cancellable offer with the first month free and then €14.99 per month; there was also an annual plan with a different monthly rate and subscription terms. This is not a universal waipu.tv price for every household. The offer page lists four streams for Perfect Plus, while other packages and bundles may differ. So check the exact tariff name you select before ordering.
For households with several viewers, simultaneous streams, recording time and private channels may matter. waipu notes that recording, pause and restart can be restricted for individual programs because of licensing rights. A streaming partner named in a package is also subject to its own plan variant. Note whether a stick is purchased or rented during a contract term and what happens when the contract ends. A seemingly cheap first month says little about the cost over twelve or 24 months. If you already own a compatible TV, check its app first and you may be able to avoid the hardware cost.
Zattoo: distinguish Free, Smart HD, Premium and Ultimate
Zattoo’s German offer page shows several tiers. When checked on 23 October 2026, Smart HD was listed at €6.99, Premium at €9.99 and Ultimate at €13.99 per month after an advertised trial period. Zattoo Free was also listed, but TV viewing was limited to 30 hours per month; mobile use and advertising have their own rules. The support overview distinguishes the tiers by simultaneous streams, recordings and device access. Check just before subscribing whether the offer page still shows the same terms.
Smart HD may be enough for one person, but mobile viewing of some private channels may be restricted. Premium may be more suitable for two people who want to watch at the same time. Ultimate lists up to four simultaneous streams and 100 recordings; whether particular programs can actually be recorded depends on rights. A higher tier is not automatically better if you never record. Before subscribing for a year, test the app on your main device, the channel-list controls and your most important channel at the time you usually watch. A nominal annual discount is of little use if an essential feature is missing.
MagentaTV: also available without Telekom internet
A common misconception is that MagentaTV requires a Telekom internet connection. Telekom explains that its TV plans can also be used without Telekom internet. You need a suitable internet connection, a supported device and the TV plan you choose. When checked on 23 October 2026, the app tariff page listed MagentaTV Flex at €11 per month with a one-month term; Smart and bundle plans had different promotional periods and contract terms. Keep “Flex” separate from “SmartStream” or an internet bundle.
MagentaTV can run on supported TVs, sticks, boxes and mobile devices; the tariff page lists supported devices and minimum versions. Telekom’s current description says Flex supports up to three simultaneous uses and 100 hours of cloud storage. Rights may restrict recordings and restart for individual programs. If you already have internet from another provider, explicitly choose the version without Telekom internet when ordering and check the final price. A bundle may suit other households, but compare it with a TV-only plan only after breaking down every included item.
Example calculation over twelve months
The following calculation covers only three specific variants, using the regular or advertised terms visible on 23 October 2026. It does not claim that their features are equivalent. For your decision, choose the tier that covers your essential channels and viewing needs. Recheck the order page, taxes, possible device and shipping costs, add-ons and renewal terms after any trial. Annual plans must be calculated separately.
| Example in Germany | Twelve-month calculation | Subtotal before extras | Check before ordering |
|---|---|---|---|
| waipu.tv Perfect Plus, monthly offer | 1 × €0 + 11 × €14.99 | €164.89 | Promotion, streams, hardware and following months |
| Zattoo Ultimate, regular monthly price after trial | 12 × €13.99 | €167.88 | Trial period, recordings, annual price |
| MagentaTV Flex, TV without internet bundle | 12 × €11 | €132.00 | Order variant, extras and devices |
The Zattoo row deliberately does not subtract a trial month, because its terms need to be checked separately at the time of ordering. The waipu row explicitly uses the introductory offer displayed. These totals are not a ranking. Paying annually may produce a different total; for example, the Zattoo Ultimate page showed €149.99 per year at the time checked. A tariff recommendation should not flatten different feature sets into a single price comparison.
A tariff finder without an advertising trick
Our short decision process starts with essential channels. If an offer does not include them, stop considering it. Next, filter by TV model and mobile devices. Then check the number of simultaneous viewers and whether you need recordings. Only after that should you calculate twelve months, including hardware and extras. That is a useful tariff finder even without a misleadingly precise points score. Price per channel would be deceptive because channel quality and personal value differ.
For a one-person household with no recording needs, an inexpensive flexible plan may be enough; still check private channels on the device you plan to use. For a family with two or more screens in use at the same time, stream limits are the first filter. For travelers, check the rules for watching abroad and on mobile devices. For sports fans, the specific rights package matters more than the number of general channels; live sports may require additional subscriptions. None of these situations makes one provider a universal winner for everyone else.
Test before cancelling or switching
Test the new service on the device you use most often. Open your essential channels, switch between them, check the EPG and, if important, test a recording that is legally available. Do not test only the first start in the afternoon if you mainly watch in the evening. Check support, contract term, post-promotion price and cancellation method. Cancel an existing service only after you know the replacement includes your essential features and you will not lose recordings that cannot be transferred.
An official free offer may already cover some needs. ARD and ZDF can be watched live through their own apps and websites. But if you want private channels, a central channel list, replay, recordings or several simultaneous streams, a paid TV service offers something different. A universal IPTV player app does not replace its content rights. Our player comparison therefore covers a different decision from this provider and tariff comparison.
Frequently asked questions about IPTV provider comparisons
Can I use MagentaTV without Telekom internet? According to Telekom, yes, if you choose a TV plan intended for that use and provide your own suitable internet connection. Is waipu.tv cheaper than Zattoo? It depends on the plan, promotional period, contract term, required hardware and features; compare the same period. How many streams do I need? Count the people who actually watch at the same time, not the number of apps installed. Can I record everything? No. The plan and rights for individual programs may restrict recordings. Are free players a replacement for a TV service? No. They play permitted sources but do not provide channel licenses.
